Tone It Up: 2014 Bikini Series!

Happy Monday!

For once, it is a happy Monday for me! Today is the first day of the Tone It Up Bikini Series! As many of you know, I bought the plan last summer, after the bikini series ended. So this will be my first time participating in the challenge. It lasts for 8 weeks, leading up to the first day of summer!

I absolutely love the TIU girls and the plan, so it will not be hard for me to stick with this challenge. I’ll also be participating in a 21 Day Fix challenge group. So I’ll have double the motivation! I’ll be posting weekly about the challenges and my progress along the way.

My goal for this challenge is to finally accomplish the 100 By Summer goal. I started the Love Your Body series back in February and unfortunately did not meet my 100 By V-Day goal. If you are unfamiliar with this, they explain everything HERE.

Each Sunday, they post a NEW weekly fitness schedule to follow. It’s suepr fun to follow along with the members. I mainly use Instagram for my posts and check out everyone else’s posts. It’s motivating and keeps you accountable. I’ll be creating a spreadsheet to help me track my progress along the way. I’m going to be a busy girl! Their first challenge was to create your summer list. So that’s exactly what I did and while I was writing down each idea, my heart was pumping faster and faster due to the excitement. I have so many great plans for this summer to make it one of the best summers yet! I’ll also be doing a lot of wedding planning which also gets me super pumped. The 2 Big E’s: Easter & Engagement!

Happy Humpday!

I am long overdue for a post. Some new and big things are happening in my life that I am dying to share with my readers! If you follow me on social media, then many of you already know. But for the rest of you… I just got engaged this week!

My boyfriend fiance proposed to me on Easter in front of my family. I am the hardest person to surprise so this is sort of a funny story. He originally wanted to propose to me in New York City aka my dream city, but it would have been too obvious since it’s hard for us to take a day off work to travel up there. Then he thought he would be sweet to propose to me at our favorite location in Gettysburg overlooking the battlefields. So he called off work and arranged for this to happen, but of course me being stubborn and difficult I didn’t want to go down. I am literally the worst person in the world to surprise haha!

Instead, he decided to surprise me on Easter with my family around us. His original plan was to have an Easter egg hunt for me, but I said I was not hunting eggs unless there was money in them. I know, I know… I’m a terrible person lol! So he numbered the eggs from 1 to 14 and each egg had a sweet message inside. Once I opened up number 13, he grabbed the last egg from my basket, got down on my knee very nervously and asked me to marry him. I was speechless and kind of blacked out for a few seconds haha but then I said yes! I’m so happy we’re engaged and that my family could be there to be a part of it. Hopefully he learned his lesson for future surprises and to let ME plan them ha!

Before the engagement went down, we colored Easter eggs together. Of course, I picked up 2 boxes of Marvel egg kits since I’m a total nerd. We made really pretty eggs and decked them all out in stickers… Iron Man & Spider-Man! Then we got up early Sunday morning and got ready for church. After church, we went up to my mom’s for lunch where she made the cutest bunny bread ever! I almost didn’t want to eat it, but alas, I took the rabbit’s foot lol. Apparently, that brought me good luck because an hour later I got engaged 🙂 yay!

We left my mom’s and headed over to my aunt’s for even more Easter celebrating. Everyone loved the ring (as do I) and it was just a perfect/gorgeous day out. Got some sun, had a Easter egg hunt, and I got to see the baby! Apparently someone decided to hide an egg on the roof… I certainly was not capable of climbing up. I can barely reach the cabinets in my house.. short problems and all. It was the perfect day and I’m still thankful I got to be around my family and new fiance. It still doesn’t feel real. No big wedding plans yet, as I want a long engagement. So stay tuned for news on that!

Also, either today or sometime this week, I will be posting about the 21 Day Fix. I’m currently NOT a BeachBody coach anymore, but I still love the products. A lot of people have been telling me to try it so I dived in and just ordered it for myself. I’m currently on day 3 and loving it. So I’ll be posting details about that and I’ll also try to keep this thing updated more. I’ve been slacking, no more excuses!

You’re a…BeachBody Coach?

March 2014 Update: I am currently taking a break from coaching and focusing on me and my goals. I may or may not get back into BeachBody coaching, I will be posting more about this in the future. While I loved my team and being a coach, I was straying away from my goals. I love health and fitness and will continue helping others. I was beginning to feel that fitness was a job and not a hobby anymore. Thank you for everyone who has supported my decision.

I can’t tell you how many times people ask me “what is a BeachBody coach?” and I get so excited and ramble on about what it means to be a coach. This past week 2 new girls came to me saying they were interested in coaching, but they had no idea what a coach was. It hit me, I need to write about this. I need to explain in my point of view what I do. This is also a glimpse into my journey of how, why, and when I started. So let’s begin!

BeachBody is famously known for their fitness programs like P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, and Power 90. You see these commercials all the time on tv and see the success stories. But of course, a lot of people just turn the channel because who really orders stuff from tv anymore? At least, that’s how I think. But I do always research things I see on tv that interest me, especially fitness.

Fitness always caught my eye because the majority of my life, I struggled with weight. I never liked my body because kids would always make fun of me for being a curvy girl and not the stick straight athletic girls in my high school. So when I would see girls jumping around on tv, smiling, and being carefree it made me stop and think “I want to feel that.”

Turbo-Fire

A few years ago, a friend of mine gave me her set of Turbo Fire dvds to try out. She knew I was struggling yet again with losing weight and knew I needed something fresh to try. I decided to commit to the 90 day program and see if it actually worked. My first week was embarrassing. I couldn’t land the moves since I haven’t worked out in the longest time. I was getting frustrated with myself because I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. But, I knew I had to stick with something for once and follow it the whole way through.

After my first week, I finally learned the moves. I could jump in the air, not pretty, but I could do it. I started to feel really good about myself. I wasn’t losing the weight I wanted to, but I was starting to feel good. This was a new feeling for me. Chalene Johnson, the instructor and creator of Turbo Fire, is an amazing teacher. She motivated me and pushed me at the exact moments I felt like giving up. It was like she could watch me from my tv. Long story short, I stuck out the program, lost 10 lbs and actually kept it off. I lost inches all over and could wear my jeans from high school. So I began digging more into what “BeachBody” was.

A month after I completed Turbo Fire, I kept hearing about people trying P90X. Everyone said it was super hard and they couldn’t finish half of the workouts. But I also saw a difference in my friends. They were losing weight. They were more fit. They looked incredible. I’m always up for a challenge, so I made my first purchase. I lost 30 lbs and 11 inches all over in just 90 days. Um, ok.. this was new to me. Sure, I lost weight prior to p90x and turbo fire, but I never kept it off. I always gained it back. Nothing ever truly worked for me. Til this day, I still kept that weight off, even when I went way off track. Obviously, I knew BeachBody was the real deal.

I started liking Facebook pages, joining groups, created a free profile, etc… I became obsessed. Then I won a Shakeology 3 day cleanse pack. What was Shakeology?

I tried the cleanse, lost 5 pounds in 3 days, and became a shakeo addict. Back then, there were only 2 flavors: Regular Chocolate and Greenberry. I was in love. I never tasted anything so good that actually kept me full. I bought my first bag and drank a shake every day. I felt a difference in my body. I wasn’t tired anymore. I had energy. I felt clean and healthy. My skin was glowing and I just felt like an overall happy and positive person. I no longer had to take iron pills because Shakeology has all the vitamins that I need and then some. Down side to Shakeology – I was at a job making only $8.25 an hour and was living paycheck to paycheck.

Shakeology is pricy, no doubt. Well, it only comes down to $4 per shake, which is a whole meal, but in one sitting it’s $120. That’s a lot for someone living paycheck to paycheck to fork out at once. I got upset and felt discouraged mainly because I hated having a job where I couldn’t afford something that changed my life. That’s when my coach, Lauren, found me. She started talking to me about what a coach does. Who they are. Filled me in on everything. When I heard her say “you actually save money being a coach. You make money. You get 25% off of everything, including Shakeology. That’s $30 off!” Alright, you have my interest!

Beachbody-Coaching

I joined up as a coach in November 2012. November has always been a tough time for me, that’s when my father passed away when I was 16. So that month is always a bit tough for me. So when Lauren contacted me the day my father passed away, I knew it was a sign from him. I knew he wanted me to do this, with Lauren, with her team, and do something meaningful with my life.

Since then, she still inspires me and pushes me. She taught me everything I needed to know about the business. She took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns and really teach me what it meant to be a coach. I love my team – we have amazing girls who I get to keep in touch with daily/weekly. We do calls each week to see where we are at the in business, motivate each other to do more, and push each other to be the best we know we can be. We help each other stay accountable and run challenge groups together helping other people change their life.

So if you love having people motivate you and support you, then coaching is for you. When you sign up, you also sign up an entire family. These girls are not only my teammates, but becoming amazing friends of mine. They’ve changed my for the better. It’s been a year – and I never once regretted my decision on this.

So what do you get when you first sign up? Well, you get a coach and a diamond coach. Lauren is my go-to coach, kind of like a boss. Angie Green is my diamond coach, sort of like the CEO of your company. You get automatic access to our two Facebook group pages – Team Dynamite (which has a ton of coaches to help answer questions, give updates, tips, and much more) and a smaller group, Team Pinnacle. Team Pinnacle is Lauren’s group that she started. We do weekly homework assignments, do weekly conference calls where we call in for 20 minutes once a week and talk about what we did for that week, our goals, dreams, and what we can do as a team. We plan out new challenge groups, review personal development, and lift each other up when we slack off. It’s a great support system.

To start out, you pay a $40 sign up fee. This covers your first month and the start up kit that gets automatically mailed out to you. This covers the basics on everything you need to know to coach. After your first month, it’s just $16 a month. In order to remain an “active” coach, you must have 50 point values per month. So if you are on Shakeology HD, you don’t need to worry about going inactive because Shakeology will cover that. This is something I will go into more detail about with people who sign me up as their coach. If you go inactive, it’s really not a big deal. So do not stress yourself out about maintaining this.

The more people you get to coach with you, the higher you rank up. A lot of people have turned this into a full time job. They make 6 figures just coaching. Sounds like a pretty good goal, wouldn’t you agree? Anything is possible when you put your mind to it. What you get out of coaching is what you put into it. If you just want to coach for the discount, that’s great. You would be crazy not to sign up and save yourself the money. Do you want to make a second income and go on fancy trips and have the money to afford it? Then, you would do more with the business. Post more. Connect with people more. This is YOUR business – you do whatever you want! You get to be your own boss.

Enough with the specifics, here is what I do:

Since I became a coach, a lot of people have noticed a difference in me. I don’t go out to the bars anymore and party. I’m not miserable or angry. I have energy to do things now and enjoy being around people. I’m happy and more positive and great things have started happening in my life… and it’s just the beginning! What’s the best thing that has happened since I began coaching? I went on a hugeeee trip last June where I struggled with money. We were leaving Friday for Philly – a 3 day vacation. Hm, I checked my bank account the Monday before we left and didn’t like what I saw in my account.

I started panicking and thinking “oh my god, I booked this trip and I can’t even afford to go. I can’t afford to buy anything. I can’t afford meals… what am I going to do?” Thursday came around (which is BeachBody pay day) and I checked my account again. I had a huge deposit made into my account and couldn’t figure out where it came from. I checked my online office on Team BeachBody and saw I made a few sales. I now had enough money to have a great trip and not have to worry about money. Do you know how good that feels? I was starting to make money without even trying. I was making new friends from people I’ve helped without even going out to the bar. My life was finally going into the direction I wanted and dreamed it would go.

I’m going to interview a few other coaches and get their input and view on what coaching means to them. I’m also going to interview people who have completed BeachBody programs and their results. I’m also going to talk to my coaches and get their feedback. I will add the links here once I get the articles wrote up.

Weekend Recap! (Buffalo Chicken Chili, Pancakes, Hayride, & Weekly W/O Schedule)

The only thing about Monday’s that I enjoy is the start of a fresh week to get back on track. Other than that, I hate them. Thinking out loud, much? Haha

There is nothing better than waking up early Monday morning and getting back on track with everything in your life. For me, it’s making new healthy meals, making new workout schedules, and joining new BeachBody groups. October is full of wonderful things! Things to look forward to this month:

Weekend Recap

Friday after work, I met my boyfriend at the grocery store. I got all the food I needed to last me for about 2 weeks plus food for dinner that night. I found a yummy recipe on Pinterest that I had to share.

Buffalo Chicken Chili

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb of ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
  • 4 tbsp. of minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp. of chili powder
  • 1 tbsp. of ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp. of smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper
  • 2 cups of low sodium chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup of hot sauce (I used Frank’s)
  • 1 15oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1 15oz can of crushed tomatoes (I used Hunts that had celery and other veggies in it)

We’ve been on a spicy food kick lately. But this was so good, you must try it! Especially if you love buffalo chicken, well, anything.

Directions:

  1. In a big pot, add in your olive oil. Once the oil has heated up, add in your ground chicken and cook until it’s brown.
  2. While the chicken is cooking, start chopping up your onion. Add this into the pot with chicken and cook until the onions have softened. I also added in my salt here to speed up the softening process.
  3. Next, add in your diced tomatoes, broth, hot sauce, and other seasonings. Cook for about 15 mins or longer, depending on how you like the texture. I prefer my soup to be thickened.
  4. Enjoy!

We added some fat free cheese to the top of the soup for extra flavor, even though it didn’t need it. This was super easy and fast to make. Looks like we can add this to our new list of foods we love!

After dinner, we went to my room and watched This is the End. We saw this movie at the drive ins this summer. It was absolutely hilarious and has all of my favorite actors in it, so we decided to watch it again before I fell asleep. I know, I’m lame these days.

Saturday

Saturday morning, I woke up early to make my usual breakfast for the weekends. Blueberry Pancakes! By far, my favorite breakfast, especially since it’s healthy. Here is how you make them:

  • 1 tbsp. of almond milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 packet of Perfect Fit protein powder (order at http://www.toneitup.com)
  • 1 tbsp. of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup of egg whites

Simply mash your banana until it’s smooth. Add in the almond milk and egg whites, stirring them until they’re smooth as well. Add in your cinnamon and protein powder. Optional: add in some blueberries and fold it into the mixture. YUM!

Heat up your pan with some non-stick spray and pour in your batter. This batter makes about 2 medium sized pancakes, which is very filling. Top it off with the rest of your banana and favorite syrup or Agave. TADA! All finished.

After breakfast, I lounged around the house all day playing my xbox and cleaning. Around 5:00 I met my family for a hayride. Fall is seriously my favorite season, simply because you get to do so many fun activities. We had a huge group go along. It was a lot of fun and the weather was perfect.

After the hayride, the boys made a big bonfire where we drank coffee and made hotdogs. Not the healthiest meal, but who can resist hotdogs over a fire? I kept it light. After the fire, a few of us headed back to my house where we got into our pjs and watched The Purge. It was a good movie, but I was a little disappointed. I thought it could have been a lot better and a lot scarier. Once the movie ended, I passed out.

Sunday

It was another lazy Sunday for me, minus making more game day cauliflower.

This time, I used a bbq hot sauce. I am addicted to this stuff! My boyfriend came over and we watched the Steelers game. I’m so excited they finally won a game! It’s about time..

After the game, he took me out for dinner and then we watched House of 1000 corpses before the walking dead came on, WHICH WAS AMAZING! This season is going to be so damn good, I can not wait. It’s our tradition to watch walking dead together every Sunday. This is why I love him 🙂

I’ve been doubling up my workouts, simply because I love doing P90X and the Tone It Up workouts. I have a new set of goals, which I will be posting about later this week.

I was pretty pumped to see that I burned almost 500 calories with my workouts tonight. It feels amazing! I am in such a better mood when I complete a workout. It truly is the best stress reliever, people forget that. Once you find that one workout you love doing, you’ll start looking forward to working out.

I also started doing a “mood journal” as a daily reminder/motivator to workout. There are days I come home from work and don’t feel like working out. Then I look through my journal and see how much my mood changes when I do workout. This is also something I plan to go more in depth with. So stay tuned!

We Are Penn State… and Italian!

Happy Monday!

Normally I oppose this day, but after an amazing weekend it’s hard to be down. Allow me to elaborate…

Friday

After work on Friday, my friend Olivia came home from Pittsburgh and we met up for dinner and drinks. We went to my favorite Mexican restaurant in this area El Campecino. We got some margaritas and enchiladas. It was sooooo yummy! We sat and talked for about 3 hours and it was great catching up with her. Downfall to being an adult: working so much you don’t have time to always catch up with your friends.

I ate sooo bad all last week, I’m so glad to finally be on track with my eating and working out.. but this meal was so worth the extra calories. After we finished, we headed home and I passed out. Tequila is fun, but makes me sleepy.

Saturday

I woke up early and got ready because my boyfriend surprised me with Penn State tickets. I’ve never been to a PSU game before, so I was beyond happy and excited when I found out last week that we were going. Penn State vs. Kent State.

I’ve been to Beaver Stadium before to tailgate for the blue & white games, but never got to be inside the stadium. It was sooo nice and huge. We also had amazing seats on the 50 year lard just a few rows back.

After being THAT close right in the middle of the field, I will never EVER settle for sitting anywhere else during a game, especially the end zones. Those seats just don’t cut it.

We got there earlier than a lot of the other fans, but that place filled up quickly. I believe there were 70,000 there. We got to see the players walking into the stadium and chanted with everyone. The energy there was unreal! Now I’m an addict and simply must go to more games, especially when it’s so close to where I live. We won, 34 – 0 I believe. I was so happy that the first game I went to we won.

Only downside to the game was that it poured almost the whole time. But we didn’t really care, it was a lot of fun.

We left the game a little early since we were winning to beat the traffic in our soaking wet clothes to go meet up with my best friend, Sarah, who came home this weekend from the Navy. She had huge news for everyone, since she got married. I’m very happy with her, so we met up at our town bar and did some celebration shots and I finally got to meet her husband.

I also got to see a lot of people I haven’t seen in years. It was a really fun night out. We left around 2 and I headed up to my boyfriend’s for the night since we had plans the next morning.

Sunday

We woke up a little late after a long day and got ready to head into Italian Festival at an amusement park close to where we live. It’s probably my favorite day of the year (minus Christmas, of course) because it’s a full day full of Italian food, Italian music, and lots of games.

We ate entirely way too much food, but it was impossible to resist. As you can tell, the Paleo diet lifestyle just wasn’t for me. I’m Italian and can’t give pasta up. Sorry Paleo lovers, the diet is amazing.. but just isn’t a realistic plan for me to follow.

We played a lot games in the arcade, including poker. I never played before and was doing sooo well. I won a ton of tickets and got some interesting prizes. It’s fun letting loose and not being an adult for a day. After eating pounds of pasta and desserts, we headed home to play some Xbox before the Steelers game. <— Don’t get me started on this football team. This is where I would insert an angry emoticon…

So now that it is Monday, I finally am back on track and created a realistic plan for me to follow. While I loved following the ChaLean Extreme program, I missed P90X. With the big news of P90X3 coming out, I wanted to do another round of the lean schedule since it was so successful for me when I first followed the 90 days. I lost 30 lbs my first round, so I’m hoping to get similar results.

I’ll also be following the Tone It Up fall challenge (while also participating in my Fit For Fall challenge group – starting Sept 30th). I wrote down my goals that I want to reach by Halloween and came up with a healthy diet plan. I’ll be cutting back on carbs, drinking shakeo every day, and eat protein with every meal. I’m also striving to hit 100 miles by Halloween.. whether it’s walking, running, biking, etc.

I’ve made plans to walk with some friends at least 4 nights a week. We actually talked about it tonight while hiking up our usual steep mountain road. 3 miles down, 97 more to go! So that will help give me the motivation to stick with getting my miles in! I’m aiming for 3 miles a day + following the P90X schedule. I’ll be posting my weekly schedules every Monday. Speaking of Fall, as I mentioned above, I’m starting a brand new Facebook workout challenge group starting September 30 until December 23. Weekend Recap + Paleo Review

That feeling when you thought it was Thursday and it turns out it’s only Wednesday? Yeah, no “Happy Humpday” for this girl. But good news, I am down 3 lbs… so that is keeping my head above the clouds during work 🙂 I’m currently on week 2 of following the Paleo diet, so it is officially review time!

Normally when I follow popular diets and go off of them even for a day, I gain some weight back. So I decided to do an experient this weekend with this diet. All week my meals have consisted of the following:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs + 2 pcs of bacon

Lunch: Vegan Tropical Strawberry Shakeo mixed with ice, almond milk, and 1 tbsp of almond butter

Snack: almonds or a banana

Dinner: Large steak salad or Brussels Sprouts with chicken or steak

For my workouts, I’ve been walking/jogging every day along with following the ChaLean Extreme month 2 calendar. I felt clean, light, full, and full of energy. I’ve been actually craving water due to eating a lot of protein. I don’t even need to count calories with this diet because I’m always under my goal… and that’s an amazing feeling.

Now, for my experience… this weekend my family planned a small trip for us down to Harper’s Ferry, WV. I was really worried because I would be needing to eat out instead of my prepped meals. I had no idea that the Paleo Diet would be really simple and easy to follow when dining out. We stopped at a small country restaurant for breakfast where I ate eggs, bacon, and sausage. No problemo there! But then dinner came and we went to Cracker Barrel. Normally, when I eat here, I eat way too much, get sick, and gassy. So I decided to order what I normally order and see how I would feel. For once, I wasn’t sick. I was full, yes, and could tell I didn’t eat my typical “clean” meal, but I was absolutely fine FOR ONCE! Eating super clean for the whole week cleaned out my body and showed me that I can have a cheat meal once a week and feel ok about it. And surprisingly, I didn’t gain any weight. I was still down 3 lbs. How awesome is that?

I have 2 girls I work with now starting the diet. I feel so good about that, plus it’s motivating for me to not screw up because I can’t let people down. Also, the doctors in my office have decided to start a Biggest Loser contest for us girls giving away high money for 3 winners. Now it’s time to get my booty into some serious gear! fter work, I will be heading to the grocery store and herbal store to pick up more food! Now onto my weekend…

Like I mentioned above, my family (about 17 of us) took a road trip down to West Virigina to visit Harper’s Ferry since we love the Civil War era. It was absolutely breath taking down there. We met up with some of my family who stayed over night at their hotel and then left to get breakfast. We got to see a lot of really cool things. Plus, it was an intense workout! Everything we wanted to see involved a lot of hiking, walking, and stair climbing. I was dead tired by the end of the day, but it was so much fun.

This was the worst climb of my life. It’s an ancient Catholic Church that set up on top of this huge mountain side where you had to climb at least 100 steep rocks to get to. It was worth it at the end, because it was air conditioned lol we were all dying! It was 91 out that day, so we hung out inside for at least 30 minutes.

After the hike up to the church, I thought that was the end of our adventure until we had to literally hike up to the rock where Thomas Jefferson stood. Needless to say, some of us made it to the top and some of us didn’t… I made it, boom! Haha

After we stopped to see a few museums and ate dinner, we ventured home until I eventually passed out. I can’t remember the last time I was that tired. The next day, I laid on the couch all day from being super sore and caught up on my shows. In the evening, my boyfriend stopped and picked me up and took me to get food at our favorite pizza place. No worries! I ordered a salad. We watched a movie and got some sleep since we had a busy day planned on Labor Day.

steelersWe woke up, got ready, and headed to Pittsburgh. We stopped at the Monroeville Mall to do some shopping! I was in my glory, minus the comic book store being closed. I stayed up the night before making a list of all the comics I wanted to purchase. Grr. But, Express did have a huge sale where everything was 40% off. Score! I got a really pretty white top perfect for the Fall season. After that, we stopped in Macy’s where they had a MAC counter… AHHH! I bought some lipstick and my boyfriend bought me foundation. His exact words were
“You know I love when I just spent $30 on powder.” 🙂 I also found the cutest Steelers cardigan. This was probably my favorite purchase! I am in Steelers heaven.

We stopped at our favorite thai food place, but they were closed for the holiday. So we went back to Monroeville and found a new Thai place to try… which was incredible. It’s called the Green Mango… So I think we might just start going to this one. Yes, I had my cheat meal for the week.. I couldn’t resist.

Once we finished our meals, we picked up his one friend from Pittsburgh, Greg, and went to the zoo. The weather was perfect and we got to see all of the animals for once. My boyfriend also bought me a stuffed fox since they’re my addiction. Yes, I am 23 years old collecting stuffed animals. I’m a kid at heart 😉 We dropped his friend off and then headed back home. It was the perfect weekend. But I’m really thankful to have this weekend plan free! I need a break.

Coming up: Review on my latest challenge group and news on our brand new one that is starting up in the Fall! I wlil also be finished with month 2 of CLX, so I’ll be writing my review on that. Until next day, have a wonderful evening!

Easter Recap + Healthy French Toast!

Happy Tuesday!

This week better not drag like last week. Then again, it is Tuesday already. I have a few fun things coming up: I’m ordering Insanity this week, since it’s on sale. I’m really excited to finally add that workout to my list. I’m going to follow the whole 60 day program and hopefully get the results that I want. A lot of the girls in my new workout group have started it, along with my coach. They love it. So hopefully that is here before Monday so I can get it started. I’ll be giving a weekly update on that along with meal plans and results. Also, this weekend is another comicon convention for me. Not a big one, but still pretty awesome. I’ll be heading to Pittsburgh for the weekend.

My Easter weekend couldn’t have been better. I didn’t have work Friday, which was amazing. Having a 3 day weekend was much needed. I woke up early and got a workout in with my sister. We did some stretching and finished TurboFire Fire 30. We went at our full intensity. My sister almost got sick from working out so hard hahaha.. not funny, but it’s a good feeling. She felt great afterwards and that’s how you should feel after a workout.

Later on in the evening, we got ready and headed down to our church for some dinner and to watch Passion of the Christ. They hooked up a projector and big screen for us all to watch it. We also ate tomato soup and toasted cheese, which I packed wheat bread and made it healthier. After the movie, we came home and watched The Hobbit before we passed out.

Saturday morning I woke up, ate a healthy breakfast, and then did some P90X Kenpo. I was amazed that I finished the whole workout without skipping any moves like I would normally do in the past. Afterwards, I got a shower, got ready, made a Shakeology shake, and then met my friend Gus at the movies to watch G.I. Joe. It was amazing, but I was disappointed that someone died way too soon. I don’t want to add any spoilers here so I will leave it at that. After the movie, my boyfriend finally came in. We went out for dinner and got some Chinese food. Thankfully the Weight Watchers website (which is going really well) has a “cheat sheet” for eating out. I loaded up my tray with the foods I always eat and calculate my points up so I know how much I can eat. After dinner, we hung out for rest of the night and then passed out since we had to get up early in the morning.

I woke up super early on Sunday because I was too excited. Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays, plus it’s another reason to spend time with the family. I made my sister and boyfriend’s basket up – but no worries, they got healthy foods. I also got some Easter baskets, 4 to be exact. I gave the candy and junk food away and kept the healthier snacks. After we exchanged gifts, we all got ready for church. Once church was over, we changed yet again and headed over to my aunt’s house for our annual Easter dinner tradition.

Yes, I might have splurged a little. But, I ate healthy all week preparing for this exact moment. Like I’ve said, it’s important to have a cheat day. Just don’t make it a daily habit! There was soooo much food, it was hard restraining myself. But I did and I was proud of myself. After everyone ate and finally settled in, we started playing the Wii together. My arm is pretty sore from it still, unfortunately. It’s always nice spending time with the family and seeing everyone. I’m still so thankful and happy to have such a huge family to do things with. Plus it helps that they’re super fun to hangout with.

We got home pretty late, but just in time for the season finale of The Walking Dead. I’m pretty upset it’s over and I am not looking forward to waiting until October to watch it again. But thankfully, one of my other favorite shows started back up for season 3 of Game of Thrones. So that should hold me over in the meantime. Monday was a lame day, it is Monday after all. But I did get to go to Hoss’s on my lunch break with the girls in my office. Krista had a birthday and no worries, I only had a cup of soup and a small salad. I usually can’t resist their food. Now on to a healthy breakfast recipe…

photo(13)For all of you breakfast lovers out there, I found a great healthy recipe! A healthier spin on the typical fattening french toast.

  • 4 pieces of a low calorie wheat break (I used Nickle’s bread – only 35 calories a piece or 4 weight watchers points for all 4 slices)
  • 3 egg whites (only 1 weight watchers point)
  • Cinnamon
  • Syrup
  • Spray butter (0 calories)
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk (2 weight watchers points)

Pretty simple and super healthy. To finish off my night tonight, I’ll be getting my workout on! I just did a shot of my E&E (energy and endurance supplment) from BeachBody and I feel super energized! For this all you need is 4 oz of water and a scoop of the powder, shake it up, and drink it 30 minutes before your workout to get energy. I am beyond ready to get my workout on! It tastes like lemonade, so happy I decided to order it! Plus it’s super cheap. Weekend Recap + Weekly Workout Schedule

Weekend Recap!

As usual, horrible PA weather strikes again! Why do I allow it to affect me so bad? It makes me lose motivation to write or do things I enjoy doing. Spring happened last week, yeah right! We just got hit by another huge snow storm that will continue on until late tonight. Bummer. I am ready to put on my Nikes and hit the trails for some running!

With that being said, yes I have been slacking on here again. Hopefully once this crappy weather ends I’ll get back into writing mode. But big things have happened for me! For starters, last week I have signed up to do Weight Watchers. They had a promo going on where if you signed up before Saturday, you got waived from the sign-up fee. A few of my girls in my fitness group have signed up and mentioned it to me. My sister and niece are also following the plan so I thought, why not? You pay $56 and get a membership for 3 months. After the 3 months if you enjoy the program it then becomes about $18 a month.

This isn’t bad if you ask me, that’s normally one meal out I usually spend. So after one week I weighed in and lost 2 lbs. Here’s the brilliant part, I went to the movies and had some popcorn, went to dinner afterwards, and enjoyed eating the foods I love eating. Of course I made some healthy meals as well, but knowing I can eat anything I want and just plug in the points and making sure I don’t go over my point limit seems simple and easy to me! And hey, it’s working! I can’t wait to give a monthly review on this. Plus it’s great that I have two people in my house following the same program. More motivation!

That Saturday morning I woke up and got a great workout in… plus some serious stretching! After my workout, I got a shower and started getting ready. Train, Debbie, Kristen, Ronnette, Stacy, Lexis, Haily, Lisa, and I went to go see Safe Haven. I thought it was amazing. I love all of Nicholas Spark’s movies & books and this can definitely be added to my top favorite movies. After the movie, we went to the Cracker Barrel for some dinner. We ate dinner and talked for a few hours. It was so nice catching up with everyone.

The rest of the weekend was laid back. Nate came over Sunday night and we watched the walking dead before falling asleep. Typical Sunday! Tuesday came and one of my best friends, Kayla, asked me to meet her for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. Of course I couldn’t refuse!

We had some serious catching up to do and I’m glad I got to see her. Our lives are constantly busy so we don’t always get to talk or hangout. I was proud of myself at dinner; normally I eat a million chips with a huge meal. This time, I didn’t! I had vegetable fajitas, which were amazing. I didn’t even miss the meat. Much healthier and less points for this gal! I went home feeling pretty satisfied with myself. The week flew by pretty fast and before I knew it, Friday was here!

After work on Friday, I went to Kohl’s for some shopping. They were having a great sale and of course, I had to go. I’d be crazy not to, right? I got 4 new shirts from Lauren Conrad’s line LC. I saved $85! That makes me super happy. I also got some of her jewelry because she happens to have the cutest jewelry ever. I got a set of own earrings, camera earrings, and an owl necklace. I’m sort of falling in love with the whole owl fashion. The shirts are perfect for spring (if it ever actually shows up here).

After I did my shopping, my friend Gus texted me with some fun plans. Loren, Garner, Gus, and myself had a Call of Duty split screen tournament. Yes I know, total geek! It’s one of the many things we love doing together, plus it’s tradition to have it quarterly. Clearly, I was the winner despite their opinions. After that, we put in some Mortal Kombat and battled it out. It was so much fun and so funny. We must have played video games for 6 hours straight. It was the latest I’ve been awake in such a long time! I came home around 4 and passed out. Well worth it!

Saturday I decided to have a “me” day, since I haven’t had one in sooo long! I binged on some sweet potato garlic fries and decided to rewatch season 2 of Game of Thrones since season 3 starts this Sunday – which I’m super pumped about! I definitely needed that relaxation day. Sunday I finished up the season and helped my sister make our usual Sunday meal. Pasta, garlic bread, and chicken.

PicMonkey CollageI’ve been eating a lot of the Morningstar replacement meats. So far I’ve had their chicken patties, veggie bacon, and burgers. I’m so impressed with how these taste like the real thing, except healthier! I can’t tell the difference, they taste that good.

Giving up red meats is pretty simple. Now chicken, that’s a different story. I will eventually be giving that up here shortly and replacing it with soy chicken replacements. The whole meal was 17 points, so thankfully I had a healthy breakfast and used my cheat points for this. Totally worth it! Nate came over later and we kind of hung out until the walking dead started.

Tomorrow at lunch I’ll be writing my ChaLean Extreme Month 2 review post. I can’t wait to share my results! This week I am starting the last phase, Lean. I’m excited to switch up my workouts. I have a lot of other posts I need to get started as well, so hopefully I can get those wrote up before March ends! Just in time for Easter!

Weekend Recap + ChaLean Extreme Month 1 Review

Is it me or do the weekends go by way too fast? Not just the weekends anymore, but months even fly by. I can’t believe I just completed my ChaLean Extreme month 1 already. I have 2 more months to go – and I am so happy with my results so far!

First, let me dip into what month 1 consists of. The first month of this workout program is called the Burn Phase. Which basically means you are burning fat and gaining a nice muscle base. For myself, I had 0 muscle. My whole family would make fun of me because I even struggled with carrying heavy grocery bags into the house. Yes, grocery bags. I was never a girl to lift weights because I was always told “when you lift weights, you get big.” Well, hello! I am a girl – I don’t want to gain a ton of muscle! But Chalene Johnson helps you understand this process more. MUSCLE BURNS FAT! It’s a giant myth that women get huge when lifting heavy weights. Why is this a myth and why do guys get big then? Because men have testosterone, much more than women. So when they lift, they get big and lean. When women lift, you get lean and small. Make sense? It took me a while too to catch on, but now it all makes sense to me.

Burn Circuit 1 – This is the first workout you will be doing. It’s an intense, but easier workout in the phase that breaks down techniques while getting a great burn. For this workout, if you don’t have a variety of different sized weights to use, then you can use the resistance band that is provided. This workout is only 35 minutes – but it’s an intense one. I promise, you will be dripping in sweat by the time you finish. There’s a modifier to follow as well in case you don’t have a muscle base (ahem, like me). You learn to lift heavier weights and do fewer reps. Sounds easy, but your arms will be shaking!

Burn Circuit 2 – You get a little bit more intense with this workout. You get into more lower body lifting as well, which is nice for people who really want to tone up their booty. You’ll also be targeting certain muscle groups – such as the triceps more than you did in the first circuit.

Burn Circuit 3 – Again, this gets a bit more intense than the first two – but still doable since you don’t add any cardio. All you do is weight training here. You might not get out of breath, but your body will be burning. Chalene also says that with weight training, you tend to burn higher calories throughout the day. Get it? Burn circuit = burning more calories.

Personal suggestion: When doing the burn circuit workouts, I suggest adding a cardio workout before or after. The workouts are super short, about 35 minutes each, If you have a lot of fat to burn off, up your cardio workout. Something that I learned & wish I would have done when following this calendar. Try doing some TurboFire HIIT classes.

Also, when doing the burn circuits, never do them back to back. What do I mean by this? Let’s say Monday you do Burn Circuit 1, on Tuesday you don’t want to do Burn Circuit 2. It’s important to space these workouts out so you give your muscles a break. You don’t want to overdo them and it’s important to always work your muscles every other day. By doing them every day, you take a risk of inflammation, straining muscles, soreness, etc…

The circuit reps only go up to 12 reps – doesn’t seem like a lot but this is the perfect amount of reps, especially if you want that “lean” body. Also, this workout has a worksheet for each phase. It’s a great way to keep track of the weights you’re using and the reps you could do. Obviously, I couldn’t do all 12 reps when I started out, but by my third week, I could do them all! This is also a great tool for you to see what you have done in the past and to up the weight. Go heavy or go home!

Burn Intervals – Talk about a killer workout! You use light weights in this workout. Example like 5 lbs. You do as many reps as you possibly can within the time limit – and believe me, you will be burning! Since this is an interval workout, you will lift for about 1 minute, cardio for 1 minute, then back to lifting weights etc… This method helps to burn calories throughout the day. Sounds easy, right? Because after an intense cardio workout you can relax and catch your breath. Yes and no. Chalene makes this a tough workout and you push yourself to your limit. Her method of training is to FAIL. No, not in the bad way. You push yourself until you literally can’t do another rep. That’s when you fail and that’s when you know you gave it your best!

Recharge – This is a nice stretch class to help you “recharge” after a week of intense workouts. I did this on Saturday mornings – you don’t have to, but I like to keep it light on the weekends since I don’t have a lot of time. It’s important to stretch out your muscles and give them a break since you worked them so hard – this also helps your flexibility and endurance.

Burn It Off – This is a high intensity workout. You will definitely be scorching away calories once you finish this! You still use some weights in this but not a whole lot. I always did this after finishing Burn Circuit 1.

Ab Burner – If you did the TurboFire Abs 10, this isn’t the same. This is a lot harder than the Abs 10. I could barely finish this workout and it took me two weeks to finally finish. Your abs will be sore after this!

photo(38)The weights I use are the Pro-Form Fusion Space Saver 25. I keep these right beside my entertainment stand – they don’t take up a lot of room and they’re great when doing this workout. This is the perfect set of weights for someone starting out in weight training. You simply select how heavy you want to go by slighting the knob in the middle of each weight. These aren’t the same weights Chalene uses in the video, but these are perfect for me. I could barely lift 5 and now I’m up to 20 lbs – just after 1 month. Imagine the results I’m going to get after I finish the next phase? This can be you!

Monday – Burn Circuit 1

Tuesday – Burn It Off+Ab Burner

Wednesday – Burn Circuit 2

Friday – Burn Circuit 3

Saturday – Rest Day or Recharge

How would I have changed this? I would have added cardio on the days I did the burn circuits – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I’ve lost 1 1/2″ from each arm, 1″ from both thighs, 1/2″ from my chest, 1″ from my waist, 1″ from my hips, and about 5 lbs so far.

How could I have got better results?

By adding cardio on the days I was doing burn circuits, eating lean protein, upping my vegetable intake, and cutting back on the carbs. I’ve learned a great lesson in weight training that I wish I had known from the beginning. When you lift, your body is burning through carbs first before burning fat. So, if you filled up on carbs all day, your body will burn that first. So by the time you finish your workout, you just burn the carbs and don’t even touch the fat.

Eat lean protein, lots of vegetables, avoid breads & pasta, and stay away from sugar. It’s really important to fill up on protein to also help replenish your muscles. Lesson learned! But I love the results I got, I feel so much stronger – I mean, I’m lifting 20 lbs now! I feel tighter all over and lighter. I started the Push Phase tonight and oh man, it’s going to be killer! AND I LOVE IT!

Thoughts So Far: I love the workout, I love the energy, and I love that Chalene actually teaches you what you’re doing and how to get better results. I actually look forward to doing this workout and I don’t get bored with it.  It switches up a lot and like I said, the first month flew by and now I’m on a complete different set of workouts. YOU WILL NOT GET BORED WITH THIS WORKOUT.

Weekend Recap

I won’t get into too much details about this weekend, but I wanted to just give a small update. Friday I didn’t do much of anything, as usual, since I am so tired by the time I get home from work. Did my last burn circuit workout and then watched movies for the rest of the night. I know, I’m lame!

photo(35)Saturday morning I woke up to a few packages at my door. I ordered the new red TurboFire jacket from http://www.turbokick.com – I love it. Plus it matches the new workout pants I just got from Nike.

photo(18)After I ripped open my packages like a little kid on Christmas, I dragged my adult butt up to the kitchen and made some breakfast. I added some olive oil to a pan, sauteed 2 handfuls of spinach, and then added 1 whole egg with 3 egg whites. I stirred this all around until it was fully cooked. Then, I added some pepper (no salt) and salsa on top. For some extra calories, I added 1 piece of the Nickle’s wheat bread (only 35 calories a slice). It was amazing and only 176 calories. It paired nicely with some coffee.

photo(34)After breakfast, I did the Recharge workout and then showered. I caught up on some Glee and then got ready to meet my friends for lunch. I met up with my friends Roman and Shana along with her two friends Misty, and McKayla (spelling). We met at the Knickerbocker where I got the Pittsburgh Specialty sandwich. I know I know, but it was so good! Plus it was my one meal for the weekend to splurge on. Totally worth it.

After lunch, we went out for a few drinks for the night. This was the first time I’ve been out in such a long time. By 1:00 I was ready for bed, which is what I did. Sunday, nothing too exciting. I went to my mom’s for lunch with my whole family. Afterwards I came home, played some Xbox, and then went to church. After church, my sister and I went to Walmart and I did some serious grocery shopping. I read the nutrition book that comes with ChaLean Extreme and got a few ideas on what to get. I can’t wait to try out some new recipes! Then to bed I went.

photo(36)This was my lunch for today at work. It was… too amazing. I simply used the Flatout Rosemary & Olive Oil flat bread, Oscar Myer’s BBQ seasoned deli chicken slices, organic romaine lettuce, fat free Greek feta cheese, miracle whip, and that’s it. So filling and so yummy. Easy to make!

photo(37)Dinner tonight was a small Greek salad with a 6 oz steak. I was craving steak and this hit the spot. Plus it gave me the energy I needed to power through my workout tonight. Since I am now finished with this post, I am going to watch The Carrie Diaries before I go to sleep. Sweet dreams!

Valentine’s Day + Weekend Recap!

Terrible Happy Tuesday!

Pennsylvania weather is the worst – it went from freezing rain this morning, snowing, raining, and then sunshine in the afternoon. Like seriously? Make up your mind haha!

photo(33)I finally had a chance to finish one of my favorite magazines – Weight Watchers. This issue featured Jennifer Hudson, which happens to be one of my all-time favorite role models. Such a strong woman who has been through so much in her life and has transformed her body. She definitely helps me push on!

Anyways…

I love Valentine’s Day and all, but I am so happy it’s finally over! Between the dinners and chocolates, it’s so hard to stay away from bad foods when trying to get healthy!

But I must say, this was the greatest Valentine’s Day I’ve ever had… and that includes the awesome Valentine cards we exchanged in grade school to stick in our homemade decorative boxes. My boyfriend is incredible and totally surprised me! For dinner, we went to one of my favorite Italian restaurants, Marzoni’s.

photo(30)photo(29)I started off with a Caesar salad and this amazing nacho platter – but no worries, I didn’t each very much of it! For my dinner, I chose the Chicken & Seafood pasta mixed with spinach, tomatoes, garlic, basil, in a light buttery sauce. It was absolutely amazing, but so fattening. As much as I loved eating it, I didn’t enjoy how bad it made me feel afterwards. I was extremely bloated and just miserable full. Thankfully, this is a dinner that will happen once in a great while! It’s important to treat yourself occasionally, but I definitely should have ate healthier.

photo(25)photo(27)I loved the presents he also got for me. A giant PINK teddy bear, a dozen red roses, a silver cross necklace (my addiction), a box of chocolates, and a romantic/sweet card. The bear is almost the size of my bed – and I love it! But alas, Valentine’s Day came to an end.

photo(24)Friday after work I went to Tame Your Mane to get my hair cut – which needed to be done badly! I also learned a awesome new curling technique called the 6 curl rule. You put only 6 curls in your hair and then pin them up to cool (like my picture above) and once they’ve cooled down, take the pins out and shake your hair. I had sooo many curls! I couldn’t believe my hair looked this way after 6 curls.

photo(23)And yes, I decided to get bangs again. I got bangs last year right around Valentine’s Day. It must be the time when I need something new in my life – and my hair is my life haha

Pretty boring Friday. I stayed in and watched attempted to watch a movie with my niece, but I ended up falling asleep at 10. I know right? It’s so hard for me to stay awake late anymore after working. Eventually I’ll get the hang of it.

photo(21)After I left the post office, it was time for some serious shopping! My niece and I went to the mall where I bought a new shirt from Body Central along with some jewelry. Then of course I made a pit stop at EB Games and got Dishonored – which is turning out to be such a fun game!

photo(10)I played this all Saturday night/Sunday morning. It’s way too addicting. It’s a mix of Assassin’s Creed, Borderlands, and Skyrim – 3 of my favorite games.

photo(19)After the mall, I went to my favorite makeup store Ulta. There I bought the Too Faced No Makeup Makeup pallet (a full makeup pallet with blush, highlighter, bronzer, etc…) and the Boudoir Eyes pallet. No worries – I’ll be doing a post giving all the juicy details about the new Spring collection along with tutorials and swatches. That will be coming up this week!

photo(6)Once we finally got home from shopping, it was time to get ready for my cousin’s 30th Birthday party. Well, it was a surprise party. It was such a nice time and its always great to be surrounded by the entire family + friends.

photo(2)Plus it’s always great getting to see her son, Kamden. I am in love with this baby! He’s in love with Mickey Mouse, so me and my sister took turns holding him while he watched Mickey Mouse on YouTube. He’s too cool.

photo(3)Sunday was the last day of celebrating Valentine’s Day. We went to our church and had a Sweetheart’s party. It was hilarious watching the married couples play the newly wed game – especially since the teams barely got the answers right. It’s even funnier than basically everyone on the stage is my family. I count my blessings everyday to have a huge family to do fun things with.

photo(13)Monday after work, I met one of my best friends, Zach, for dinner at the Knick. It was great being able to just hangout and talk. We had so much to catch up on! Plus the food was great.

After I got home, I worked on some of my BeachBody Bootcamp homework. I’m amazed at how much I’m learning from the coaches… it’s definitely helping me step outside of my comfort zone and to progress my business. Plus I’m getting great tips on how to run social media better. I can’t wait until I can run my own Bootcamp 🙂 goals, goals, goals!

This is my last week of the ChaLean Extreme Burn phase! Next week I start the Push phase for 4 more weeks. I’ve lost inches all over so far – so I’m so pumped to see my results after the next 60 days. This month FLEW by so fast! I absolutely love this workout so far, I don’t get bored with it, I can feel the changes happening in my body, and I actually look forward to pushing play (wink wink, finding your soulmate workout!)

I’ll be posting a 4 week review on that along with a new healthy recipe, makeup review, and much more. My workout group Love Your Body is doing so amazing. The girls are right on track and it feels great being able to help them as they continue to help me. I am loving their energy & results so far!
